Endowment
History
In 1993, Paul Madar, the sound engineer for the Hoosier Storytelling Festival gave Stories, Inc (now known as Storytelling Arts of Indiana) a check for $75 and told us that we could not cash it until we created an endowment. At that time, we opened a savings account until the endowment was formally incorporated in 1995.
In 1999, the Board voted to move all monies to The Central Indiana Community Foundation. This move allows the money to be invested in a larger pool of assets.
The endowment's sole purpose is to fund the programming and services of Storytelling Arts of Indiana and is governed by a Board of Directors. In most cases the directors are past board members of Storytelling Arts of Indiana.
Since that first contribution, individuals like you have continuously contributed to the endowment. At this time, the endowment is rather small yet we have taken the initial steps to insure the future of Storytelling Arts of Indiana.
The Board votes to spend a portion of the interest each year. Purchases include:
- Equipment for the office and programming
- Banners
- Tickets for low-income and at-risk individuals to attend a portion of the festival
- Funding for the OASIS Storytelling Pilot program
In celebration of Storytelling Arts of Indiana's 20th birthday, we are launching our first Endowment campaign. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by October 2010. To contribute to this campaign, click here.
